Scalp Micropigmentation services for hair loss, thinning hair & scars — designed around your face, hair pattern, & goals.
A non-surgical hair loss solution, built around you
Scalp micropigmentation for men is a non-surgical hair loss solution designed to create the look of natural hair follicles using precise, layered pigment impressions. Whether you want to restore a receding hairline, create the appearance of a clean shaved head, add visual density to thinning areas, or camouflage scars from a hair transplant, SMP can deliver a sharper, more confident look without surgery, daily fibers, or ongoing cover-up products.
At Lana SMP Studio, each treatment is customized around your face shape, hair loss pattern, skin tone, hair color, & long-term style goals. The goal is simple: natural results that look clean, balanced, & undetectable up close. SMP also works for men experiencing alopecia areata, scarring alopecia, or hair loss from medical treatment — the technique is adapted to camouflage patchy or diffuse loss with the same natural results. Hairline Restoration
Ideal for
Receding hairlines
Mature hairlines
Temple recession
Uneven hairlines
Thinning front hairlines
Male pattern baldness
A receding hairline can change the way your entire face looks. SMP hairline restoration helps rebuild the appearance of a fuller, more defined hairline while keeping the result natural & age-appropriate.
Rather than creating a harsh or overly straight line, scalp micropigmentation allows the hairline to be carefully designed around your facial structure, temples, forehead shape, & existing hair pattern. This gives you the look of a clean buzz cut or shaved hairstyle with a hairline that fits you.
With the right design, SMP can help frame the face, restore symmetry, & create the appearance of a stronger hairline without a hair transplant.
Full Scalp Coverage
Ideal for
Bald spots
Full scalp hair loss
Male pattern baldness
Norwood hair loss
Thinning across the scalp
Buzzed or shaved styles
For men with advanced hair loss or complete baldness, full scalp micropigmentation creates the appearance of a freshly shaved head with even coverage across the entire scalp.
This treatment is often called the “shaved head look” because it replicates thousands of tiny hair follicle impressions. When done correctly, the result blends naturally with your skin tone & facial features, giving the appearance of a full head of closely shaved hair.
Full scalp SMP is a strong option for men who want a low-maintenance hair loss solution without surgery, medications, hair systems, or daily concealers.
Density Building for Thinning Hair
Commonly used for
Thinning crowns
Thinning temples
Mid-scalp thinning
Diffuse thinning
Early-stage male hair loss
Visible scalp through hair
Not every man wants the fully shaved SMP look. For men with thinning hair who still have existing hair, density building can help create the appearance of fuller, thicker hair.
SMP density treatment uses subtle pigment layering between existing hair follicles to reduce the contrast between the scalp & hair. This can make thinning areas appear darker, fuller, & less noticeable.
This service works best when the existing hair is kept at a consistent length & there is enough natural hair to blend with. The goal is not to create a painted look, but to reduce scalp visibility & improve the appearance of density — a practical alternative to hair fibers, sprays, or powders that wash off, transfer, or need daily application.
Scar Camouflage
Ideal for
FUT scars
FUE scars
Hair transplant scars
Scalp surgery scars
Accident scars
Visible scar tissue
Scalp micropigmentation can also be used to camouflage scars on the scalp by blending the scarred area with the surrounding hair follicles or shaved scalp pattern.
This is commonly requested by men who have visible scars from previous hair transplant procedures, including FUT strip scars & FUE dot scars. SMP can also improve the appearance of accident scars, surgical scars, or other areas where hair no longer grows naturally.
Since scar tissue holds pigment differently than normal skin, the treatment is performed with a careful, layered approach for the most natural blend possible — giving you the freedom to wear your hair shorter after a transplant or injury.
Beard & Facial SMP
Helps with
Patchy beards
Beard gaps
Thin facial hair
Uneven beard lines
Weak cheek lines
Sparse mustaches
Light sideburns
Facial hair scars
SMP is not limited to the scalp. Beard micropigmentation can help men improve the look of patchy facial hair, uneven beard lines, or areas where facial hair does not grow evenly.
This treatment can be used to create the appearance of fuller beard density, fill in gaps, sharpen facial hairlines, & improve symmetry around the beard, goatee, mustache, or sideburns.
The treatment is designed to blend with your natural facial hair & skin tone so the result looks subtle & realistic — whether you want a more defined beard shape or simply want to reduce patchiness.
Why men choose SMP
Practical. Natural-looking. Low maintenance.
Unlike hair transplants, SMP doesn't require surgery or donor hair. Unlike hair fibers or sprays, it doesn't need to be applied every morning. Unlike hair systems, there's no glue, no maintenance schedule, & no fear of it shifting.
A restored hairline
A fuller shaved-head look
Reduced scalp shine
Improved hair density
Scar concealment
Better facial framing
A more confident appearance
For many men, SMP isn't about looking like someone else — it's about looking sharper, cleaner, & more like themselves again.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Lana specializes in women's density treatments & men's hairlines. Both require a delicate, detail-oriented approach — softening the contrast between scalp & hair for women, & designing natural, age-appropriate hairlines that frame the face for men. While the studio offers the full range of SMP services (full scalp, scar camouflage, beard SMP), these two specialties are where Lana's craft & experience truly shine.
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a highly detailed, non-surgical procedure in which tiny impressions of pigment are deposited into the upper layer of the scalp using ultra-fine, medical-grade needles. Each micro-dot replicates a hair follicle, creating the appearance of a closely-shaved head of hair, a sharper hairline, or added density in thinning areas. The results are extremely realistic &, when done correctly, undetectable.
Most clients experience minimal discomfort — far less intense than a traditional tattoo. The needles used for SMP are much finer than tattoo needles & only reach the upper dermal layer of the skin, so the sensation is more of a light, repetitive pinprick than a sharp pain. Some areas of the scalp can be slightly more sensitive than others, but the overwhelming majority of clients tolerate the procedure with no medication. We always check in with you throughout the session to make sure you're comfortable.
Yes. When done correctly, SMP is virtually undetectable. Each pigment dot is custom-mixed to match your skin tone & hair color, & dot size, spacing, & depth are layered to mimic the natural pattern of real follicles. The result blends in with your existing hair & looks like a freshly shaved head, a fuller hairline, or denser hair — not a tattoo.
No major downtime — you can return to normal activities within a few days. SMP is non-invasive, & most clients return to work the same day or the next day. Expect mild redness on the scalp for roughly 24–72 hours after each session, which fades quickly. Aftercare is simple: avoid heavy sweating, swimming, saunas, & direct sun exposure for about 4–5 days after each session to let the pigment settle properly.
Results typically last several years with occasional touch-ups to maintain sharpness. Once your full treatment is complete, results usually look fresh for 4 to 6 years before any noticeable fading occurs. The pigment will gradually lighten — not change color or turn an odd hue — at which point a quick single-session touch-up will restore everything to its original look. With proper aftercare & SPF protection, many clients go even longer between touch-ups.
Not at all. SMP works just as well for women — & is one of the few non-surgical treatments that can effectively address female pattern thinning, diffuse hair loss, alopecia, & post-surgical scarring. Because women typically experience thinning across a wider area rather than full pattern baldness, the technique is adjusted to add density beneath the existing hair rather than create a defined hairline. SMP is also effective across all skin tones & all hair colors.
Most clients require 2–3 sessions to complete their treatment, though some cases — especially extensive scarring or full scalp work — may need an additional touch-up. SMP is intentionally built up across multiple sessions because the scalp heals & absorbs pigment differently in each area, & layering in stages is what creates the natural, three-dimensional look. Sessions are typically spaced 10–28 days apart to allow the skin to fully heal & the pigment to settle before the next layer is applied. Your exact treatment plan will be confirmed during your free consultation.
Each session generally lasts between 2 & 4 hours, depending on the size of the treatment area & the goals for that session. The first session is usually the longest because we're laying the foundation — designing your hairline, mixing the custom pigment, & creating the base layer. Subsequent sessions are typically shorter as we refine density, blend, & add depth. You'll be in a comfortable chair throughout, free to listen to music, watch something, or just relax.
SMP is a great fit for most adults experiencing hair loss, thinning, or scarring. It works for all skin tones & all hair colors, & there are no requirements for how much existing hair you have. The best way to know for sure is to book a free consultation — we'll review your scalp, discuss your goals, & design a treatment plan tailored to you.
Yes — SMP is one of the most effective non-surgical options for camouflaging the visual appearance of alopecia. We work with clients experiencing alopecia areata (patchy autoimmune hair loss), traction alopecia (often from tight hairstyles), scarring alopecia, & hair loss from chemotherapy or other medical treatment. The technique is adjusted based on the type & pattern of loss — patches are blended into surrounding follicles, while diffuse thinning is addressed with density-building. Results are typically immediate & undetectable.
For clients getting a full hairline restoration or full scalp treatment, we recommend keeping the hair short — a buzz cut or close shave — for the most balanced, natural look. For clients getting a density treatment to address thinning hair, you can keep your hair at its current length; the pigment is placed underneath the existing hair to reduce the contrast between scalp & follicles, making the hair appear fuller. Your artist will help you choose the best style for your hair pattern during your consultation.
Gray hair is not a problem. We use a custom-mixed, gray-scale pigment that's diluted to blend seamlessly with your natural tone. When hair is kept short, even gray hair appears darker at the root because the follicle itself contains more pigment beneath the skin than the visible strand. This is why correctly-shaded SMP dots blend naturally into gray, white, or salt-&-pepper hair without looking out of place.
SMP is one of the most effective treatments available for camouflaging hair transplant scars — both linear FUT strip scars & the smaller dot scars from FUE procedures. By depositing pigment into & around the scar tissue, we replicate the surrounding follicle pattern & dramatically reduce the visibility of the scar. SMP can also be used to add density behind a transplant that didn't yield the fullness you were hoping for, giving the final result a more natural, complete look.
SMP pricing is fully customized to your specific needs — the size of the treatment area, the extent of hair loss, scar coverage, & the number of sessions required. Because every client is different, the most accurate way to get a quote is to schedule a free consultation, where we'll measure your treatment area in person & walk you through a customized plan. Either way, there's no obligation & no pressure.
